Key West Video Announced as a 2022 National and Local Excellence Award Winner by UpCity!

How Will Instagram Live Video Affect Your Corporate Business?

Social media apps are constantly changing, and with the introduction of Instagram Live, this could mean new opportunities for corporate businesses.

On Monday, Instagram announced its newest feature: Instagram Live. The company had previously announced its plans to introduce the new feature (which, if we’re going to be real, is a direct knockoff of Snapchat live).

Though still not fully available in Canada yet, the new add-on will bring live-streaming to its users. The Facebook-owned app is a little different from its parent platform in that its live stream disappears after a period of time (also like Snapchat).

When someone you follow is live, it will appear in the Stories section of the app. Instagram live will even send you notifications when someone you follow is doing a live stream (based on an algorithm as told by Mashable).

Live videos also appear in the “explore” section of the app, a section that is already curated to show users content based on their interests/likes/comments.

One way to check if your phone has Instagram Live is to swipe into the stories camera app. The broadcasts themselves aren’t thigns we haven’t seen before; if you’re familiar with Snapchat’s live stream or Periscope, you’ll see recognize similarities. For one, users are able to “like” (or “heart”) content they like in the stream.

With Instagram becoming more immediate, it leads brand to wonder: is there a benefit to the app? A lot of corporate companies are now starting to take advantage of the photo gallery application, and Instagram has recognized that by introducing its business profile.

But now? Instagram Live has basically rolled all of our favourite elements of different apps into one. It annihilated Vine when it introduced Instagram video, it became a strong competitor when it introduced stories, and now with Instagram live, it might destroy what’s left of Periscope (and the immediacy of Facebook live!).

For companies looking to bring their customers behind the scenes and speak directly to their audiences, Instagram live seems like a great option.
