In the past, we’ve talked about augmented and virtual reality. But what about mixed reality?
And what is mixed reality, anyway?
Well, unlike virtual reality, which essentially is an alternate reality, mixed reality instead operates similarly to AR. Where virtual reality changes what we see, hear, and sometimes smell, augmented reality adjusts what we see in real life. Think of VR as an all-consuming video game while AR operates like Pokemon Go.
But unlike both of these faux realities, mixed encompasses something different. It uses motion tracking and a bit of AR to create live projections that are triggered by movement. Like an episode of Black Mirror, they are motion-sensored to adjust based on a subject’s movements, and change as a subject interacts with them.
For tech-heavy corporate companies with a budget to match, this type of video might be a great way to push the creative envelope. These videos broaden the scope of our perspective. They create alternate dimensions that we’re able to access through technology and are a great way to entice a wider consumer base. For companies looking to challenge their viewers’ perceptions, this is a great way to do it.
For corporate video specifically, these types of videos work best when advertising new technologically-based services or products. A company doesn’t necessarily need to be “selling” MR; this reality can simply be a way to showcase something else. By asking customers to look deeper and question the reality around them, a smart creative marketer could provide the “questions” to their answers with products or services. MR poses the question, while you, the seller, provide the solution.
Here at Key West Video, we are constantly looking for new ways to expand on video technology. For more information about the services we provide, visit our website today!
